The Macomb County S.W.A.T. team is a multi-jurisdictional tactical team whose mission is to save lives. It is the S.W.A.T. team’s responsibility to respond to barricaded persons, hostage incidents, emotionally disturbed persons, civil disturbances, work and school place violence situations, terrorist incidents, security details, and special assignments from the Sheriff. Every Officer assigned to the SWAT Team are willing to give their lives to save or protect the people living, working or playing in Macomb County.

Recent terrorist related events have required this to be one of the SWAT Teams biggest priority. The S.W.A.T. team is equipped to function tactically in many different environments including a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive environment (CBRNE). With an eye on current events, the Sheriff has ensured this training and equipment so the SWAT Team can better respond to a terrorist attack, criminal act, or hostage situation to achieve the goal of preserving life.

The SWAT Team has gone through a 161.5 hour Advanced SWAT Operations for Terrorist Environments training. This training, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, allows the Team to determine what resources are available based on equipment, resources and training levels of various SWAT Teams to handle a major incident in Macomb County. Due to this training, The Macomb County SWAT team may be called upon by the Federal Government to assist with a Terrorist event within the County, State or Nation.

With cooperation from Henry Ford Hospital, Macomb Medstar Ambulance, Tactical Doctors and Medical Officers have been added to the Team to immediately address injuries sustained by Bystanders, Officers and Suspects during a critical incident. These Tactical Doctors and Medics are sworn reserve deputies of the Sheriff Office and participate in all S.W.A.T. Team training.

The S.W.A.T. team is equipped with many lethal and less lethal tools including an advanced explosive breeching program. Equipped with trailers for equipment and personnel, portable generators for power and ballistic resistant vehicles, the team has the ability to operate on scene in different environments for extended periods of time.

The S.W.A.T. team is currently comprised of personnel from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Utica P.D., Fraser P.D., Chesterfield Township P.D. and Eastpointe P.D.
